How can we waste less every day?
Trash fills up quickly in many homes. Less trash could make for a happier planet and a happier you.
Imagine spending less time dragging the can to the curb or cleaning leftovers from the frig that we forgot were there and have now molded.
More stuff clutters our mental and physical space. At least it does for me. My parents always told me waste not, want not; yet our home was filled with papers, and stuff. They saved everything. It was a great challenge to sort and get rid of the stuff when my father died.
Let’s start a waste less/clutter less challenge.
Here are a few things we can do:
- Carry reusable utensils and reusable straws in our purse or lunch box
- Keep reusable coffee/tea cup in your bag or leave a ceramic mug at work
- Recycle cardboard boxes
- Turn the water off while brushing your teeth, soaping hands, and while showering or (take shorter showers).
- Use guests’ leftover water for your plants
- Use reusable freezer and dishwasher-safe food storage bags (stasherbag.com)
- Use plastic-free sponges that are compost able and laundry safe (sqwishful.com)
- Use stained cloths and clothes as rags.
- Recycle junk mail and unsubscribe
- Use biodegradable silk dental floss in a glass package (Its expensive) but package is refillable
- Use cloth totes at the grocery store ( I have a ton is you need some)
- Keep a reusable container in your car for to-go orders.
- check expiration dates especially when items are on sale
- Make a weekly menu; check to see what you already have at home first
