~My Story~

My parents, both educators raised my 2 younger brothers and I in a small town in Georgia. As the oldest child and the only girl, I was bossy and tried to teach those around me by setting good examples. I am thankful to all the teachers and neighbors who helped to shape and develop my character. I could not get away with anything. As a young girl, I always wanted to help others and worked hard to excel in everything I did. I was very caring and empathetic toward the needs of others. I played doctor as a child with the goal of making people feel better.
My college experience was the highlight of me finding my path. I knew that a healthcare field was where I wanted to focus my education. I initially thought of nursing since I was compassionate to anyone who was sick and always trying to help someone. I was a candy striper (hospital volunteer in high school and college) Later, I thought that if I was going to seek nursing, I might as well go the extra mile and become a doctor. A summer internship at Harvard University during my Junior year while shadowing physicians in the hospital helped me to realize how much sickness there was and how little hope for many to leave the hospital alive. I did not see the hospital as a place to get better.
As time was moving toward graduation, I decided to pursue Dentistry as a Career and 38 years later, I am happy I did. I am very sensitive to the concerns of my patients and wanted to be more humane than my dentist as a child. I strive to treat each person as an individual, not just their teeth. While providing dental care for my patients, I found that I was good at recognizing deeper issues that many had and used the opportunity to provide counsel on a number of areas.
I studied nutrition and how the body functions as a whole and the learned the great role the mouth and teeth have on the rest of the body. From the shape and function of the teeth, the role of the salivary glands, the digestive system, and vascular system, they are all related. Digestion begins in the mouth and without a healthy mouth, we can’t have a healthy body.
As a result of my further studies, the dental center became a wellness center where I offered classes on nutrition, cooking, and incorporated massage therapy, acupuncture, colon hydrotherapy, hypnotherapy, esthetician services, and holistic physician to the practice. Together my husband and I created a holistic (focus on the whole) system approach to dentistry. We later had a Vegetarian Deli & Juice Bar, Positive Entertainment (No smoking, no alcohol) facility, A full service Vegan restaurant and Health Food Store. All of these ventures were new to me, but with research and trial and error, I developed, managed, and worked in them all. I was a true entrepreneur.

So Why A Healthier New YOU?

28 years ago, I avoided surgery by changing my eating habits. I was eating the SAD (Standard American Diet of fast foods, sodas, milkshakes, etc. I began to have bleeding from the rectum and saw several specialists who could not find a cause even after much testing and scopes in several orifices of my body. No one asked what my diet was like, or how much water I drank. Their only solution was to give me stool softeners and other pills and offer me surgery As I relayed this to my spiritual advisor, he asked how much water are you drinking and what do you eat for breakfast. His advice was simple, drink more water and eat fruit in the morning. This advice saved me from surgery and began my journey to a Healthier ME. I read many books including Diet for a new America and Fit for Life and enrolled in more nutrition courses.

I Believe In YOU

I believe that everyone has the ability to be healthier and have the energy to accomplish their goals and dreams I believe that being healthy is more about focusing on what matters; how we think and feel about ourselves instead of getting on a scale or measuring your waistline. Being healthy is more than just what we eat, but what we consume from our mindset and beliefs, the environment, toxic or negative conversations and people and everything we do. I love taking care of myself; mind, body and spirit, and I want the same for you… Allow me to help you on this journey to a Healthier New You.

Fun Facts About Me

I love to Dance. My first formal lesson was tap at age 55. At 62, I participated in a Star Ball competition dancing Tango, Swing, Salsa, Samba, Foxtrot and Rumba. This was one of my most memorable times.

I love Music. All types from country to blues, from jazz to R&B, but the Oldies with the Isleys, the OJay’s, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin Gladys Knight and the Pipps, The Righteous Brothers, Average White Band and more are my groove.

I love to Read. When I was a young girl, I used to read in bed in the dark, not wanting to wait to find out what happens next. Reading takes me beyond myself to experience other people’s lives, adventures, travels, pain and joys. I have so many books I could have opened a bookstore. I would literally be in the book store for hours. These books are among my favorites: The Red Tent, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari, The Four Agreements, The Untethered Soul, The Go Giver, Manifest Your Destiny, The Energy Bus, Peace from Broken Pieces, Becoming, and Everlasting Life, from thought to reality. On a less serious note, James Patterson is a great author. He has a way of engaging me from the moment I open the book until the end. There are so many others…….

Enjoy Every Moment

I Love Good Movies with a message like “The Gift”, Forest Gump, On Golden Pond, Beaches, The Sound of Music, The Notebook, Hidden Figures and more.

I am very spiritual, not religious. I believe in the Divine loving source that is universal, deep within our very core being that guides and directs our lives, loving and learning on the path of life.

I love to cook. I often create new recipes by using what is available. My friends used to tell me if there was a famine, they wanted to be with me because I can make a meal from anything when it looked like there was nothing to eat. I love to write. I am not sure when I started but I would often find myself jotting notes about what I saw and how I felt. I kept a diary as a child and continued to journal throughout my life. I now use journaling as a tool to manifest what I want as if I already have it. I journal in the present tense, I AM and in the positive rather than what happened to me. I found that writing continually in the negative kept me down, so I write the lessons learned and how I can change my mindset and move forward.
