WINTER HYDRATION

It’s cold outside in most parts of the world.

Many of us don’t realize the importance of staying hydrated in the winter. Here are a few benefits for staying hydrated in winter.

  • Water helps to regulate our body temperature because our thirst response decreases in the winter. So, just because you are not thirsty doesn’t mean you are hydrated.
  • Water helps to reduce the dull skin effect. Water is vital to keeping skin cells hydrated. Drink water to keep the glow.
  • Water helps to energize us. Daytime fatigue could be from dehydration. Hint: drink water instead of coffee or caffeine drinks.
  • Reduce weight gain by drinking water 30 minutes before eating; You are less likely to overeat or binge on junk food.
  • Protect the immune system- Dehydration weakens the immune system.

Tips to make sure you are drinking enough water.

  1. Fill a container with the desired amount of water you want to drink daily (recommend 1 oz per pound of body weight as a goal) take steps daily to reach the goal)
  2. Set an alarm on your phone to remind you to drink water.
